Winter + Snow storms = lots of Grit Salt
Well, we have got an old new car to get around the city as you well know it, but it does require maintenance and servicing. And 1 of the crucial things to do during winter is to wash the car. Why? The roads are heavily gritted during snow fall in order to ensure the snow does not linger on the road. As you all know physics, salt will melt ice as the latter's melting point is lowered.
In contrast, for your car's steel chassis, benders, fenders and what not, salt is corrosive and will eat away the metal parts. That's why it is important to wash the car once you return home (but here in Calgary, you have to watch out for the storm water bylaw . It should be totally ok to wash the undercarriage and car body with plain water to rinse away all that grit. In our case though, we don't have a house nor does the condo parking lot allow us to wash the car, and therefore, we need to use the car wash.
Close by, there's a car wash lot and it's fully equipped with car shampoo and pressure washers. And the experience was fun to some extent.
Firstly, you drive in, and queue into 1 of the bays. Afterwards, when it's free, you're able to park in the washing bay and pre-pay for your wash. It's a standard $15, and any unused amount is refunded to your credit card (for cash, it's a $2 min payment). For MrHKer, the washing process involves rinsing, shampooing and rinsing again. That's it! Once you're done, you go out of the washing bay and find an empty parking somewhere else to dry the car (otherwise it will get water drop stains).
