Credit score in Canada

A credit score is like a financial CV...

When we were leaving HK, we had several things we had to sort out, eg ending leases, closing bank accounts, packing + shipping our stuffs, finalize our PR documents (which we did 3.5 months  before leaving), COVID tests, preparing quarantine plans ...etc It's a lot. We did all that within 5 months, where at first, we finished our PR documents in about 2 months but the next 3 months were for the relocation itself.

Although we did everything in a fast forward manner, we got them done without breathing much along the way. It's intensive and honest to God, we'd rather spread these over an additional 2 months. You'd thank yourself to give yourself more time to catch up with the friends and relatives and also process things you did not think you would need to.

Enter 'credit score'. In HK, nobody cares about it. Probably everyone has a good score because most use their credit cards which have their balance autopaid at the end of the month. Probably my friends in Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, China, Japan,  India, Philippines, Kuwait, Thailand, Mexico, Belgium, Indonesia and Vietnam too. Yet, none of us and any who I asked, had actually mentioned they attached any importance to that score. Sadly, it's very important. Sorry, let me retype this again:
Your CREDIT SCORE in your Home country is VERY IMPORTANT. Why? Because when you immigrate, especially in North America, you will need to open new bank accounts and get credit cards or loans. Not all the banks, but the big ones will ask you about your credit score. Last week, our former neighbor from across the corridor, another newly arrived immigrant, had was looking to get a mortgage to buy a condo (flat/apartment), but he did not have a credit score in Canada, and the banks told him to wait 6 months to build his credit score... He told me that it was not a lost case, but back home, he could request to buy his credit report and credit score, and he managed to get one to start his mortgage process.

For mrHKer, curious as always, he went to check and for HK, it's Transunion HK:

As you can see, the credit bureau seems to believe that I was still in HK and could go to their office in Tsim Sha Tsui to drop my id and my proof of address... I am already in Canada and not brave/rich/<insert any reason> to fly back to HK to get the credit report. So... everyone else, please beware. Before you leave, you have the chance to do this 1 last but extremely important step...credit score
