First car refuelling

We are doing a lot with the car lately...

Well, yes, since we got our car, we have been traveling around but not for leisure reasons, but mostly due to the errands related to having immigrated to Canada. In fact, we have been to the family doctor for our first appointment a few weeks ago, as until then, we did not know how to get there (and we did not think about using Uber although this would have worked). Uber in Calgary is great by the way☝. MrHKer took it and he said he enjoyed the conversations with all the drivers and it's refreshing to meet hardworking and knowledgeable people - most of them are hardworking Canadians, doing Uber as a part time gig while they also work full time otherwise. MrHKer met doctors, nurses, Engineers, Business Owners and Accountants during the few trips he went for and each and every driver was a pleasant journey๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

Back to us refueling our car. Well, it was not so simple, in the sense that oil prices have gone up and different gas stations have different prices, but fortunately, they all have the same approach. So, you drive in, park the car but need to make sure you park your car where your tank inlet is closest to the gas hose (because these are usually not long to go round the car). Once you parked, you must ensure you switched off the engine, don't smoke, don't use your phone (sparking may happen - it's rare but you don't want to be the one in the news having boomed) and when you get out your car, you can lock it, but not before opening your gas tank. So, you don't need to go in to ask the staff to help (you can but you may get rejected), as you can pay at the gas hose terminal with cash or a credit card.

The key part is selecting your fuel type. So, ordinary for us as we are driving an average car that does not need hi-octane. And that's it. Once you paid, you can grab the hose and insert into your tank. Don't worry ๐Ÿ˜: if you paid more than you actually fill in, your credit card will get refunded, while you can also hold onto your receipt to get your cash back at the gas station counter. if you paid cash, that is. So, as you start filling, you just hold onto the hose and it will slow down as your tank is nearing full capacity and at this point, you can pull out. And that's it! Replace your gas tank cap and lock it up and wipe any gasoline that spilled on your car (it eats away the paint - it's an organic solvent so... beware). Now you're ready to go๐Ÿ˜.

Optionally, at some gas stations, you get a discount, not just for refueling but for doing a car wash. So, you may take up that offer or not, but we did not have it at our gas stations. Oh, you can also collect air miles or some other reward points too, depending on it being Esso, Shell, PetroCanada, Husky or Costco - just check their website and you'll know๐Ÿ˜‡
