Water types around Canada

Here's a post about water hardness around Canada...

Water hardness is about how much the water has absorbed in terms of minerals. For example, in a sub tropical region like HK, the water comes directly from the rain and did not have too many solids (calcium carbonate mainly, but there are also other minerals) dissolved in it. In contrast, the water in Canada, especially when the water comes from melting snow in the mountains and goes into the rivers and lakes, this had the chance to accumulate plenty of minerals.

Water hardness is not that bad, except it builds scaling inside (see shower head on the right in the pic below) your appliances and pipes (and damages them). For people, well, if you have sensitive skin, hard water makes it more prone to eczema... Otherwise, it should be safe to consume.

And therefore, many households use water softeners to soften the water that comes from the hydro companies.

Fear not. Your appliances can still be cleansed of the scaling by using vinegar or some lemon juice, to remove any build up.
